about
The composition ’Cirque’ by Jannis Carbotta combines field recordings, sounds of electromagnetic fields, resonant feedback, the Serge Modular Synthesizer and different close-miked textures of objects and materials. It explores similarities between these utterly different forms of sound creation and puts it all together into a listening journey through sonic landscapes of the inner and outer space. It also tries to make invisible and hidden sound sources of nature and technology audible, for example the wind, melting ice, the earth rotation, radiation and interference. Carbotta draws upon Luc Ferrari’s idea of anecdotal music - a concept of composing sounds which are strongly connected to their origins and arranged in a playful way to turn into a narrative element. The artists approach is also to convey a deeper way of acousmatic listening by distracting from the commonly perceived connotations of sounds through the use of noise and context shifting.
Recorded between May and July 2020 in different spots in Cologne and at IMM Düsseldorf.
